All on Board the eBus to Nelson Hospital
Have you ever thought about catching the bus to the hospital for an appointment? For many of us, that idea can feel a little daunting, especially if we’re not regular bus users, or if navigating the hospital grounds feels confusing or stressful (and hilly!)
That’s why we’re very pleased to offer a trip to Nelson Hospital for our next eBus guided journey as part of our All on Board initiative. Our wonderful eBus programme is supported by both Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council and it’s all about helping older adults feel confident and comfortable using the bus network and showing just how easy it can be to get where you need to go.
Our next journey on 22nd October takes us from Richmond to Nelson Hospital, where we’ll explore not just the bus experience itself but also what happens once you arrive. For many older people, hospital visits can stir up feelings of uncertainty, finding the right department, getting from one building to another, or simply knowing where to grab a cup of tea while waiting. This friendly guided outing aims to make that whole experience a little less stressful.
Once we arrive, we’ll meet Clive, one of the hospital’s well-known “buggy” drivers, and hop on board for a short ride to the front entrance. Clive will show us how the shuttle system works, so you’ll know exactly what to do next time you need it. We’ll also visit the hospital café for a cuppa, catch up with some of the surgical pre-admission staff, and learn where to find key departments around the campus.
If we’re lucky, we’ll also meet Angela, the Older Persons Nurse Specialist, who’ll share a few tips about getting the most out of your hospital visit and where to find support if you need it.
This trip is a great opportunity to practise using the eBus and become more familiar with the hospital layout, all in good company and at an easy pace. Whether you’ve got an upcoming appointment or just want to boost your travel confidence, we’d love to have you join us.
